Balázs Mártonffy

John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics

Balazs Martonffy, PhD, is a political scientist currently serving as the Director of Research of the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics at the University of Public Service, where he previously led the Institute for American Studies. He received his doctorate in international relations from American University School of International Service, where he won the William C. Olson Award for exceptional teaching, and he received the Munich Security Conference's John McCain Dissertation Award, recognizing exceptional research in transatlantic relations. Balazs has authored numerous academic books and articles, and his policy-oriented work on international security has appeared in, among others, The Washington Post, War on the Rocks, and The Conversation. Balazs is also a course director of the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy, has previously taught at George Washington University and Eotvos Lorand University, and has held various positions with the Hungarian foreign and defense ministries. Balazs also holds an MA from the University of Denver, a BA from Washington University in St. Louis, and is a member of the Hungarian Atlantic Council and the International Studies Association.
